Washington, DC, United States (AHN) – Eight states and two cities will split $5.25 million in federal funds for climate change prevention programs.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention awarded the money Tuesday to Arizona, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Oregon and New York City and San Francisco.

The initiatives will study the health impacts of climate change, including heat-related illnesses, animal- and insect-related illnesses, food- and water-borne illnesses, conditions that worsen allergies and respirator problems and health effects linked to intense weather conditions.

The CDC said in a statement that some health departments will use the money to conduct risk assessments identifying the most likely health impacts and the most threatened populations.

“Many of the potential health effects of climate change are related to threats we already face, including heat waves, extreme weather events, and emerging diseases,” George Luber, director of CDC’s Climate Change program, said in a statement.

Recycling is here to stay, and anyone even trying to suggest that recycling isn’t valuable would be incredibly wrong on a number of counts. Recycling is valuable in more ways than can even be described in one article. Even still, consider these facts:

*Hundreds of paper mills in the USA use at least a portion of recovered materials to manufacture new paper products.

*In America we use 4 million plastic bottles an hour and most of them are thrown away. Have you ever thought about how many plastic products there are?

*More than 1.5 million tons of construction materials are manufactured every year from paper products

*More than 200 paper mills produce paper products entirely from recycled materials

*More than half of office paper is recovered with recycling

*Recycling aluminum cans drastically decreases the loss of raw materials

*There is no limit to the number of times aluminum can be recycled

*The Aluminum Foundation reports that during a 12 week program, over 105 million beverage cans were recycled, earning over $2.3 million for charities.

With just a few of these facts in mind, it becomes extremely clear that the value of waste does not end at the trash can or the dumpster. Business waste such as paper, plastic, and metal all have value even after they appear to have served their purpose and they can contribute immensely when it comes to making more money through better business recycling.

Independent businessmen and women across the country have learned to look at waste differently, turn it into savings, and earn money in the process. By simply changing their perspective on business waste, they have saved and earned hundreds of thousands of dollars by providing valuable waste consulting for businesses in a variety of industries. In the end it really is only a matter of perspective, seeing waste within the context of a green business opportunity makes a difference in many ways. The value is there, so why not act on it and cash in?

Mark Patrick has been working independently by taking advantage of a variety of work at home business opportunities.? Most frequently he has chosen to earn a living with business opportunities that have a positive impact for communities, recently writing about business waste consulting and green business opportunities

The world is becoming extremely environmental conscience. With great pushes to save the environment and reminding everyone that they can do their part, the market in green has become huge. By the “green” market we are speaking of items that are environmentally friendly. There are several areas where the opportunities for small businesses are huge.

One area is the search for green apparel. Individuals are looking for eco-friendly clothing and the market in this area is growing. This means using organic materials such as cotton and using environmentally friendly dyes. Small businesses can find a market in this area because they can offer unique environmentally friendly clothing. More and more designers are becoming eco-friendly and the need for the service is growing. Getting your foot in now on this type of green business could be very beneficial for you.

Another green market which is growing is the use of solar energy. Many experts see this use of this growing, meaning that those who can install it will be in high demand. Starting your own small business in this area can tap into the green movement and hopefully provide a large and successful market for you.

Also, if you can teach a business what areas they can become more eco-friendly in you can start a small business in this area. Individuals who can advise businesses on making environmentally friendly choices and decisions are growing in demand. You can get your foot into the green market by providing the information to those who want to go green but aren’t necessarily sure how.

Going green is rising in popularity. If you are looking to start a small business looking into this growing market would be a very valuable starting point.

If you need money now, like I mean in the next hour, try what I did. I am making more money now than in my old business and you can too, read the amazing, true story, in the link below.
If you want to start your own company it will take a little money to get started and on your feet. Banks put many things into consideration when you ask them for money for startup business loans. Here are five of the most important considerations when you want money from a bank for a loan for your new company.

1. When you want to get money from a bank the first thing they will consider with startup business loans is your credit. You should have a healthy credit score that looks great. If your credit is bad it tells a lender that you do not repay your debts and this may stop you from getting a line of credit.

2. Experience is a big factor when you are hoping for startup business loans. You should have years of experience in the line of work you want to start your own business and you should be able to convince the bank you are the right person to open the company. A bank may think you have the best idea ever but if they do not think you are skilled enough for the company to generate revenue or to manage the business they will not lend you any money.

3. Assets are another factor that lenders want to see. When you are trying to secure startup business loans you should have some assets worth money that the bank can secure if they feel they need it. If you have nothing worth any value and you are asking for money to begin your own business you will probably be turned away. Banks want to see you are serious and when you secure assets with the money they know you are.

4. Gather some money down for the startup business loans. The best way to show a lender that you are serious about your new company is by having a healthy chunk of money as a down payment. When you have 20% to 25% down payment for your startup business a bank is more willing to talk to you. A good size down payment may even make a bank look past your bad credit.

5. If all of the factors above do not fall in your favor you might try and find someone who can co-sign a loan with you. A lender will want to know if you have someone who will back you that you are good for the money. This person will need to have good credit but they can be considered as a silent partner in your endeavors. In most cases a friend or family member is the best person to ask to cosign startup business loans.

If you are looking for money for startup business loans you should consider many things. A bank will want to know that you are financially in a good position, qualified to run the business, why the business will do well and many more things. Securing a loan is important but you may need a down payment, good credit, assets, or even a co-signer.

When you think about ethically sound, green business ideas, you immediately think of ways to reduce green house gases as part of your business model. Making money is one thing. But when you consider that your effort will go into making more and producing more of whatever you choose as your home business in an effort to of course make a reasonable income, you begin to think, whatever it is you are selling and producing must be environmentally sound.

One of the most wonderful green home business products that can be sold online is information in the form of a digital download. Quite commonly people are searching for information online and there are always specific niches that people are willing to pay money for. These niches can be fulfilled easily as a digital download. The consumer can read and benefit fully from the product without necessarily printing the information. The book, the ebook, is a digital download that can happily sit on a consumers hard drive for years and years. It is easily found and easily retrieved and read using a pdf (portable document file) reader which allows the information to be accessed. A perfect green home business product!

Selling this kind of information is 100% environmentally friendly. It also makes sense from a business perspective because it is available right away for the consumer. This means no waiting for the mail. The consumer of such information products makes their payment via credit card and are immediately referred to a secure download area where they can retrieve the specific information they paid for. In this way, it is highly susceptible to impulse purchases, which any business graduate can tell you, can represent up to 30% more sales over any given year. This makes it not only environmentally sound and a green home business opportunity, but smart business sense.

My family recently decided to upgrade our kitchen and replace our old out-dated cabinets and we were considering going “green.” We thought one factor might keep us from doing our part to help reduce our carbon footprint, and that was the cost associated with going the environmentally friendly route. These questions arose: If there is such a thing as “green cabinets,” where would we find them and how much would they cost compared to standard cabinetry?

We eventually located a manufacturer of cabinetry that did not add as much to the greenhouse effect as most cabinets may. To our surprise, the cost of upgrading our kitchen cabinetry with low impact cabinets wasn’t too much more than traditional cabinets. Once we began to research going green, we realized how important it is to do our part…and how not considering environmentally friendly products adds to the greenhouse effect.

In fact, we found a lot of information that suggested if we chose not to go green, we’d end up paying more in the long run. As it turns out, we’d pay a little extra now and benefit considerably more in the future because of the unseen pay-off. What I mean by pay-off is specifically the benefits green products produce as a by-product, so to speak.

New cabinetry puts out formaldehyde continually, especially within the first year. Formaldehyde can be toxic, is an allergenic, and is carcinogenic–that is, it can cause cancer. Because formaldehyde resins are used in many construction materials (including cabinets), it is one of the more common indoor air pollutants. At concentrations above 0.1 ppm (parts per million) in the air, formaldehyde can irritate the eyes and mucous membranes, resulting in watery eyes. Formaldehyde inhaled at this concentration may cause headaches, a burning sensation in the throat, difficulty breathing, as well as triggering or aggravating asthma symptoms.

Just the costs associated with any health problems that may arise from being exposed to formaldehyde can offset the premium price of environmentally friendly cabinetry. If someone develops cancer as a result, the extra cost is priceless, in my opinion. Any time away from work, school and free-time because of any illness that may be a result of exposure to formaldehyde can eventually add up to a lot of money. Unexpected medical bills, a few days away from work and missing a test at school may not have immediate or direct costs associated with them, but must be considered as hidden expenses that can possibly be attributed to formaldehyde exposure. If you’re following this, and if it turns out these costs are a direct result of such exposure, the choice of going green adds to paying for itself.

My family has come to realize that we really need to change the way we think about our carbon footprint, being as environmentally friendly as our situation allows and doing what we can to find green products that are as effective as non-green products.

As a small business owner, I can appreciate how thinking “locally” can be more productive for the surrounding community and eventually for my own family. What I mean by that is nothing more than what goes into the local economy eventually comes back around to my individual family and friends. The ways that is true are endless and go round and round.

Being green allows us to take ownership of our local economy and encourages a smaller overall carbon footprint. How can that be bad? Yes, maybe a bit more expensive, but in the long run most definitely worth the investments of money and time.

While in the past many people were not thinking about the environment, especially at work, increased awareness of the importance of conservation and saving the environment has even made business owners begin to take a second look at practices they can change to improve the environment. If you haven’t considered how your business is affecting the environment, it may be time to consider what you can do to operate a little greener. Today it is becoming more and more popular to go green at the office and it is relatively easy to use great policies at work that can help the environment and make your business more successful as well. Not sure where to begin? Well, here are a few tips to help you out.

Tip #1 Go with Green Vendors: If you want to go green at your office, it’s going to be important to go with green vendors for your needs. Find out if vendors have green policies of their own in place already. Each vendor your use, such as your office supply company or even the bank you use should have green policies to help with the environment. Find out which businesses do use green policies and then support them and their choices by giving them your company’s business.

Tip #2 Make Donations: Another thing that you can do to keep your office environmentally friendly is to make some donations. All the pens, phones, books, computers, and other supplies that you have at the office that are no longer being used can be donated. You’ll find schools, libraries, charity stores, and nursing homes will be glad to take them off your hands. This way someone else can get some use out of them and you won’t be throwing them away.

Tip #3 Purchase and Plant Trees around Your Business: Trees are great for helping the environment by releasing oxygen into the air. Why not plant some trees around your business. Perhaps start an initiative at your office for people to earn their own tree. You may even want to set a special day aside for planting some trees. This will be great for the environment and it can be excellent for your business promotion as well. Purchasing some small saplings should not be all that expensive to do, and consider even using these trees as awards or incentives in the office instead of paper certificates.

Tip #4 Put in Electric Hand Dryers: Many businesses go with paper towels in their bathrooms, and this promotes the use of natural resources that could be saved. Instead of using all that paper, why not invest in some electric hand dryers for your bathrooms. This will save on using paper towels, and not only is it great for the environment, but it is also going to be cost effective as well, since you’ll save quite a bit on the cost of the paper towels.

Tip #5 Go with Recycled Products: There are a variety of different recycled products that you can use for your business that will help you in your pursuit of going green at the office. Some of the recycled products that you can use include recycled paper goods, recycled toner and printer cartridges, and even recycled plastics. You should recycle yourself, and also use recycled products as much as you can.

Tip #6 Purchase Personalized Coffee Mugs for Your Employees: How many Styrofoam cups do you go through a day at the office? If you have many coffee drinkers in the office lounge, more than likely you go through quite a few. Why not go ahead and purchase some personalized coffee mugs for all of your employees. This is a great gift that you can offer and they’ll be able to use their mugs over and over again instead of having to actually use Styrofoam cups, which are not great for the environment.

As you can see, there are many things that you can do that can help to improve the environment. Going green at the office is actually a lot easier and cheaper than you probably thought it would be; in fact, it can even save you money in the long run. So, if you’re ready to start taking care of the world you live in, consider using these tips at the office to make it as green as you possibly can.

Most folks are completely behind the “green movement” and have found a new interest in alternative energy. Most of this has to do with the Global Warming motif and huge amount of media coverage on CO2. Now please understand that in the spirit of full-disclosure I am not a Global Warming Alarmist and do not buy into the theory that mankind’s CO2 is heating up the atmosphere.

Okay, let us discuss the Dot Com Bubble and the Bubble Burst that ripped through Silicon Valley like a Category 5 Hurricane. Venture Capital firms flush with cash were doing deals with companies, start-ups with interesting ideas for website, without any way of ever making any money and no similar business models that had ever proven to be successful.

Next, let us look at the Housing Bubble, when house flippers, new home buyers and real estate investors were buying homes at the top of the market and mortgage companies were funding these purchases with reckless abandonment, most of the deals with no money down at a time when it was known that it was the top of the market. Why did they do it?

Now fast forward to the latest focus, a “green” alternative energy future, with plenty of funding and considered to be a safe bet. After all, anything that is green is in right? Sure, right now, but just because it’s green or a shade of green does not mean it will produce green dollars. Many businesses have great ideas and concepts for alternative energy however they are relying on the good graces of the consumer to pay more for them.

These companies and their financial backers assume that citizens who care about the environment will pay more for the green label. Further, they are relying on the government to purchase what they sell, give tax breaks and incentives consumers for buying them and punish their non-green competing companies with increased regulation.

So, what we have here is the funding of businesses that may never make a profit, government promoting them, speculators jumping on board and unlimited monies being channeled in that direction. Therefore, if you get into the green scene, get in and ride the wave and then get out before the next big bubble breaks with the green slime all over your face!
