Instituting environmentally friendly practices does not mean sacrificing your competitive edge. Business owners are realizing that they can make a bigger impact by changing their business policies than by changing their personal behavior, and this has lead to a change in corporate culture over the last few years that has resulted in a notable environmental impact.

In the past, efforts to institute eco-friendly business practices were admirable, but these efforts appear negligible compared to the changes that are being made today. Minimizing the consumption of paper products and electricity are still effective ways for companies to save money and help the environment at the same time, but many companies are stepping outside these standardized boundaries to effect big changes.

Many companies are choosing to enact organization-wide policies that take enormous effort and patience, and the results of these efforts are just now filtering in. Leaving the choice in the hands of consumers often results in poor choices, but when companies choose to be careful about what they produce and how they produce it, the impact can be tremendous.

In the Great Lakes area of the United States and Canada, wind energy is becoming an increasingly viable source of power for companies of all sizes. Wind powered electricity costs only slightly more than standard electricity for the consumer, and many conscientious business owners are willing to pay the premium. For the producers of electricity, using wind power makes sense as a way to help reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Reducing dependence on one commodity allows the producers to further diversify and create a more sustainable financial future for their company. Thus, both the producers and consumers of wind powered electricity benefit from the creation of this clean, environmentally friendly energy source.

Pascale Engineering, a producer of portable trade show displays and trade show flooring in the Great Lakes area, has completely converted to the use of wind powered electricity in its state-of-the-art production facility. In addition to being totally wind powered, Pascale Engineering produces recycled and recyclable trade show displays that are quickly making their way into the market. These displays give exhibitors nationwide a green alternative in their trade show marketing campaign, which only serves to further the environmental goals of many companies.

End users are virtually unaware of the progress made by Pascale Engineering, as they notice no difference in cost. In fact, the Exhibit One Display System line or products produced by Pascale Engineering has seen a marketable increase in quality with no increase in cost. Thanks to research into lighter weight plywood materials, the Exhibit One product line has become more durable and more lightweight. This saves end users huge amounts of money in shipping costs each year, and increases their overall satisfaction with the product. In an effort to make their production process cause less waste, many products within the Exhibit One line use the exact same component pieces. In fact, the entire Exhibit One line can now be produced from a catalog consisting of less than a hundred parts. This means that if exhibitors want to upgrade their trade show display package, they do not always need to purchase new components, as the parts can simply be rearranged in many cases. This saves exhibitors enormous amounts of money each year. Positive environmental change does not always have to be associated with negative economic impact.

Simple changes in business practices and purchasing can make an enormous impact on the environment, and the cost of the choices is usually minimal or non-existent. Whether or not you believe that carbon emissions are the culprit behind our increasingly unstable global climate, there are simple changes that can be made that would make a big impact on the health of our planet.

Andy Keeler is the owner of MODdisplays. They specialize in trade show displays and exhibit graphics at and their trade show booths are environmentally friendly. MODDisplays can be found online at: http://www.moddisplays.com

To the surprise of many, the government tries to modify our behavior through monetary strategies and the same is true for promoting green construction. In this case, we are talking about funding a green project.

There are numerous sources for the funding of green project research and construction. They exist on the National, State, and local level. They include grants, tax credits, and loans. The important thing to understand when you begin a search for a source of funding is that the government and society in general is very anxious to assist you with your green project. We are not just waking to the global dangers. Our leaders are already wide awake and know that green construction is an essential element of the future health of our nation. They want to help, particularly on the state level.

The central clearing house for Federal Programs is the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA). This website based catalog gives information of all federal programs that supply funds to state agencies, local agencies, and non-profit organizations. They also list programs that are available to private developers and even individuals. This catalog can be accessed online and application made online as well.

There are over $400 billion dollars offered in over 1,000 Federal Grant programs. These programs are all listed and explained on the grant [dot] gov website. In addition to full information, application forms for the grants can be downloaded from the site, and the final submission can be entered there as well. Grants are not as easy to get as some people think, but they are possible. They also have the major advantage over loans and other funding sources because they do not have to be repaid in most cases.

There are several national green construction funding opportunities. One is the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE). Obviously, this office is interested in Energy Efficiency in building construction use and also of the use of renewable energy sources. They will provide funding for research and the demonstration of these two things in green construction. Green Communities is a five year and $555 million dollar initiative to build a total of 8,500 environmentally health houses for low income families.

There are also several Foundations dedicated to green construction funding. The Home Depot Foundation is one, and another is the Kresage Foundation. There is help available on the State and local level also. The Database of State Incentives for Renewable Energy (DSIRE) is one example of a State level resource. There are also a large number of local based incentives as well. Green construction is an interesting meeting between those looking for funding and those agencies willing to provide it.

Zack Verde is with GreenBuildingCompanies.com – providing information on green construction.

Environmental conservation has recently become the latest buzzword among major countries in the world. As governments of developed countries realize the importance and inevitability of working towards environmental conservation, major business houses are trying to comply with eco friendly operations. All leading companies around the globe have realized an importance for sustainable trade for their long-term survival.

Most business has realized that suitable conservation of non-renewable energy resources was the ultimate way to attain lasting existence of businesses and mankind. Utilizing oil resources continuously without concern for future has already raised eyebrows and caused havoc in U.S. auto industry. Demand for alternate biodiesel is in constant rise. People are opting for new opportunities of any alternate energy source. Solar energy long promised to develop as a major energy supply but lately there has been no significant achievement as regards to solar power satisfying the human demand for energy.

Also different industries that depend on nature for their raw material requirements are under pressure. They need to shift to eco-friendly production ways that would enable sustained business on a long-term scenario. U.S. paper industry has come forward for the protection of forests and agreed to work towards forests conservation. Increasing global demand for paper has led to an erosion of numerous trees of Cumberland hardwoods – thus threatening the ecological system of the place. Unless immediate preventive steps were exercised the region would not be left with any forest resource to further facilitate human survival and growing industrial needs. Ways to conserve forests include using recycled paper waste and also managing forest resources in a more sustainable way. Major paper industry giants have recently come forward as a positive step for working towards environmental conservation and minimizing uncontrolled use of trees for paper manufacturing.

Many government organizations, business companies and also non-profit-concerns are operating worldwide to enhance commerce and techniques that promote environment conservation. Ways to promote research work for alternate fuels and encouraging business to practice recycling of products are becoming increasingly popular among in U.S. and other concerned countries.

Emphasis to find different sources of energy apart for oil reserves is always being researched. Wind energy, solar energy, bio-fuels, wave energy and many others have been tried and tested for efficient replacement of non-renewable power resource. Many options have also achieved significant amount of success in helping conservation of oil sources that is fast disappearing from earth surface.

Hybrid automobiles have been invented that run on bio-diesel as a measure to find a way for reducing large amounts of oil consumption in U.S. Governments in many countries have introduced certain measures upon corporates to work towards responsible environmental protection. Ways to find new energy efficient methods for production are sought, that not only promotes healthy living conditions but also reduce manufacturing costs for industries. Many industries are actively taking part in a race for achieving eco-friendly manufacturing techniques and using recycled wastes. Realization for proper disposal of industrial wastes only after their proper treatment is essential for nature conservation. Recently a new approach for green building materials has gained a lot of popularity among building constructors to encourage ecological protection.
