It is a common fact that the jellyfish has always been dangerous and harmful to the water sport lovers and swimmers. Just like poisonous spiders and snakes, jellyfish is a dangerous water creature with fatal sting that can kill you faster than any other harmful creature in water. Jellyfish are spreading at a faster rate and are not easily visible due to their tiny structure, but are highly poisonous. Jellyfish has deadly venom that can cause you distress and unbearable pain, but box jellyfish is a venomous species of jellyfish that has the ability to kill 3 adults! People who are stung by the dangerous box jellyfish must be given first aid immediately and rushed to the hospital as soon as possible. Majority of swimmers, who are hit by venomous box jellyfish, are never saved on time. Out of the 19 species of jellyfish, two are highly dangerous among other deadly creatures on this earth. Even one of the two have sufficient toxic in its sting to kill minimum 60 adult people in less than 3 minutes! Box jellyfish are transparent and light blue, cube-shaped creatures with four different sides, hence the name box jellyfish. With 15 tentacles on every corner that measure 3 meters, have 5000 sting cells called nematocysts. Jellyfish shoots like a jet at the speed of 4 knots. They are found in the moist seasons near the creeks or river sides when the seas are calm. These deadly marine creatures are not found in corals or in deep waters or near excessive weed bed or sea grass. These move in silent waters near the shore and at high tide, these move to the creeks and river mouths. Usually, box jellyfish feed on small fishes and crustaceans. There are almost no chances of existence if attacked by its venomous sting, unless given first aid quickly. The pain that the victim experiences is overwhelming and unbearable that he/she would rather drown than swim to the shore . Vinegar is of extreme help to person attacked by its poisonous sting. In order to kill and deactivate the sting cells, it is essential to pour excess amount of vinegar on the attacked portion. An individual might even need artificial respiration and thorough rub on cardiac region. The popular box jellyfish, Chironex Fleckeri has a huge body with deadly sting. The stinging cells or nematocysts appear like tiny poisonous darts seen on every tentacle along the whole length. The swimmers don’t wish to swim in water where these deadly creatures are present. However they are permitted to only when there are secured stinger nets fitted or if they are putting highly safe specially manufactured clothes for swimming. In the Mediterranean Sea, around 30,000 people were stung by deadly jellyfish. It was believed that in per square feet area of water, there were around 10 jellyfish. It is commonly seen that jellyfish love to remain in warm and salt waters, thereby allowing swimmers to swim without any tension. But due to global warming, the temperature change has made offshore water more saline thereby pointing more jellyfish on the coastal lines and more towards your innocent legs. Be careful, the jellyfish is coming!
