Finding a Federal Small Business Grant

Filed Under (Angel investor) by Susan Amato on 11-03-2010

Grants from the Federal government are given only to non-profit organizations and those that are set up as educational institutions. You may be able to find grants available at the state or local level. Obviously these will differ from one area to the next and you will need to look into what grants are available. If you have not already started your business, you may consider the nature of the business as certain industries are favored. These would include things like child care, green technology or tourism.Even though you will not be able to find a Federal small business grant, you can often get a grant at the state level that will be dependent on you matching the amount [...] Continue Reading…

Filed Under (Business Strategy) by davidguide on 08-03-2010

Grants For Profit – Where’s the Free-For-Profit Business Grant Money?

Filed Under (Angel investor) by Sandra Noble on 25-02-2010

The ProblemSo the United States economy is struggling. Everyone is trying to figure out what will pull us out of the current recession.  In February 2009 U.S. Congress passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), also known as the stimulus bill. Its purpose was to provide a stimulus to the U.S. economy in the wake of the economic downturn. I don’t agree with everything our Congress and the Obama administration is doing. EcoHomes Assessment – What’s it all about?

Filed Under (Business Strategy) by davidguide on 22-02-2010

Ecohomes is a credit based environmental rating scheme.  It’s currently operated as a voluntary scheme in the UK, but has been developed to be used against new dwellings as well as major refurbishment projects. The assessment can be carried out at any point in the project lifecycle, but usually the earlier the assessment is taken the better.  This allows for any corrective action that needs to be made to be built into the schedule of works and minimises disruption. The EcoHomes assessment tests the development or refurbishment against a set of criteria that help determine the impact the said dwelling will have on the environment around it.  Currently, the assessment areas include energy, transport, pollution, materials, water, land use, [...] Continue Reading…

Filed Under (Angel investor) by Neil Lewis-Vahl on 18-02-2010

I am not suggesting for a moment that all Green businesses are bad investments, but I am suggesting that whenever a bubble appears or to there is much enthusiasm for an idea, that a number of the businesses ideas sold to unquestioning investors will turn out to serve the middle men far more than the money men.As the investors, the business angels, we need to be on our guard. There appear to be two dangers with the current alternative or green energy fad.The first is the classic investment risk taught by Benjamin Graham and discussed in his book The Intelligent Investor. Graham, the mentor of Warren Buffett, took apart the reasons for investing in the 1950s boom industry – the [...] Continue Reading…

Green Awareness For Greening Businesses

Filed Under (Green Business) by Michael Richmond on 18-02-2010

I wish I could take about a week to give business people an introduction to Green business practices. Environmentalism has become an immense diversity of issues, and even scaling down to the parts that apply to business leaves enough information to fill a truckload of books. Even the dedicated environmental professional will need to spend a great deal of time to master the concepts that apply to business.Add to that the challenges and demands of running a business, and it is easy to understand why taking a business Green is frankly beyond the resources of most businesses. It is a practical matter of necessity. The needful chores and obligations of business are back breaking. How can you fit an [...] Continue Reading…

Energy Performance Certificates are now mandatory for the sale or lease of commercial property (Commercial EPC). Asset owners will require to obtain an Energy Certificate before the property is marketed for sale or lease. The same principles apply to the domestic property market.
